Huge Asteroid To Fly By Earth Today!

A recently discovered asteroid which astronomers have called “2012 LZ1” , and is about 500 metres wide will fly by the Earth today! It is thought that it will pass within 14 lunar distances (5.4 million Km) of the Earth. There is no chance of any collision with Earth but it is thought that it will come close enough to be caught on film. We will post any images as and when they become available. Experts believe that it is only a matter of time before such a space object eventually does collide with the Earth. Here is a dramatic footage of what may happen when such a collision takes place.
2012 LZ1 was only discovered on the night of June 10-11 by Rob McNaught and his colleagues at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Because of its size and closeness to Earth, 2012 LZ1 qualifies as a potentially hazardous asteroid. Near-Earth asteroids generally have to be at least 150m wide and come within 7.5 million Km of Earth to be classified as potentially hazardous.
