When the Hubble Telescope was pointed at what appeared to be empty space, scientists were amazed to discover hundreds of new Galaxies! These pictures taken by Hubble are considered to be the most dramatic space shots ever taken.

The Hubble Telescope was in fact proposed in the seventies and was due to launch in 1983. However due to techncial, political and other problems, such as The Challenger disaster, it didn’t go into orbit till 1990. Even then, scientists found that the main mirror had been ground incorrectly. This was rectified by a servicing mission in 1993.
