Sir Patrick Moore is perhaps the UK equivalent of Carl. His television programme, ‘The Sky At Night’ has been running for over 50 years and is the longest running television programme to be hosted by the same person.Sir Patrick Moore is credited with having done more to increase the profile of astronomy in the UK than anyone else. In 2001, he was knighted by the Queen for “services to the popularisation of science and to broadcasting”. Also in 2002 he was presented with a BAFTA for services to television by none other than Buzz Aldrin!
