Mars Curiosity Rover Report – March 15, 2013

A NASA scientist discusses the analysis of the first drill sample taken by Curiosity. This was the first rock powder ever collected.

The analysis confirms that the rocks were once in a fresh water environment. The Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft delivered Curiosity to its target area on Mars  on Aug. 6, 2012. The rover will conduct a nearly two-year prime mission to investigate whether the Gale Crater region of Mars ever offered conditions favorable for microbial life.
