– “For You To Enjoy And Share With Friends” –

A tribute to the crew of the Apollo 11 mission, that landed the first men on the moon, played to the background song, ‘Walking On The Moon’ by the Police.

Launched by a Saturn V rocket on July 16 1969, Apollo 11 was the fifth manned mission of the Apollo programme.  The two astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, stayed a total of about 21½ hours on the moon surface, including about 2½ hours outside the spacecraft. The third crew member, Michael Collins remained in the Command Module.

After lifting off in the upper part of the Lunar Module and rejoining the Command Module, the two moon walkers and Michael Collins returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific on July 24 1969.

As Neil Armstrong descended onto the Moon’s surface he said the famous words,

“One small step for  man, one giant leap for mankind”

which was heard by people all around the world. Apollo 11 fulfilled late U.S. President Kennedy’s goal of reaching the Moon by the end of the 1960s, which he had expressed during a 1961 mission statement to Congress:-

“I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.”
